Evelyn Glennie
Grammy Award winning Evelyn Glennie (OBE) is the first person in musical history to successfully create and sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist. As one of the most eclectic and innovative musicians on the scene today she is constantly redefining the goals and expectations of percussion, and creating performances of such vitality that they almost constitute a new type of performance.
The evening will begin with a screening of her magical film Touch the Sound, a collaboration with the renowned film director Thomas Riedelsheimer. This documentary follows Evelyn Glennie as she performs in New York, Germany and Tokyo, sharing her insights into the nature of music and the ways in which we experience it.
While still a student, Evelyn Glennie learned that she was going deaf. Rather than abandon her study of music, in which she had shown such talent, she instead turned her focus toward percussion instruments and developed her ability to feel the sound through her body.
Following the screening Evelyn will give an hour long performance and then a Q & A session.
