Bonnie Tyler, Lycra and Laughter…
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010It’s a lethal combination when the brilliant Tom Roden and Pete Shenton share their extraordinary fusion of dance and comedy in their latest production – This is Now. The show takes its inspiration from the first edition of the pop compilation series Now That’s What I Call Music, with the New Art Club pair taking a mental journey back to 1983 and performing a series of sublimely ridiculous dance routines to the strains of Phil Collins, Bonnie Tyler, Heaven 17 and KC & The Sunshine Band. However, the frenzied physical hi-jinks are only part of the comic offering, as Tom and Pete take frequent verbal timeouts to tackle pressing matters arising – like what exactly the word “now” means, and whether nostalgia is a mental illness. There’s nothing too earnest here, though. Despite the high-flown nature of their chosen artform, these guys are incapable of taking anything seriously for very long. This talented duo’s unique work has amazed audiences since they formed in 2001 and is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud. We are huge fans of Tom and Pete’s sublime blend of contemporary dance-meets-comedy fun. You’d be mad to miss it!
