Tango Motion Tango Siempre

We are thrilled to welcome back Tango Siempre with an evening of virtuoso choreographed dance to the exquisite sound of 1930’s Bueno Aires – creating a breathtaking journey into the heart of Tango Argentino.

Tango Motion features four of the world’s leading tango dancers, who have appeared in Strictly Come Dancing, Tango Por Dos, and in the film Evita, starring Madonna. Accompanied by live music from the outstanding Tango Siempre musicians this show must not be missed. Book early to avoid disappointment.

As part of this years festival, the Get Active School Sport Partnership and Wayne Sables project are collaborating to increase boys’ participation and achievement in physical education and sport through a dance residency project supported by funding from Arts Council England. Since February nine secondary schools across the borough have enjoyed an intensive programme of Dance workshops that will culminate with over 50 boys performing pieces in styles of their choice as part of the Youth Dance Platform on Wednesday 24 March at 7pm. This very special platform event will also feature DeWarenne Academy, Urban Moves Streetdance Academy, Allegro TheatreDance Academy, Street Vibes School of Dance, Sugar Kane’s, Doncaster College Street Dance and Denaby Main Primary. If you’ve enjoyed watching the likes of Diversity on Britain’s Got Talent why not get down to the Civic to see some local street dance talent. Tickets are only £5

Bonnie Tyler, Lycra and Laughter…

It’s a lethal combination when the brilliant Tom Roden and Pete Shenton share their extraordinary fusion of dance and comedy in their latest production – This is Now. The show takes its inspiration from the first edition of the pop compilation series Now That’s What I Call Music, with the New Art Club pair taking a mental journey back to 1983 and performing a series of sublimely ridiculous dance routines to the strains of Phil Collins, Bonnie Tyler, Heaven 17 and KC & The Sunshine Band. However, the frenzied physical hi-jinks are only part of the comic offering, as Tom and Pete take frequent verbal timeouts to tackle pressing matters arising – like what exactly the word “now” means, and whether nostalgia is a mental illness. There’s nothing too earnest here, though. Despite the high-flown nature of their chosen artform, these guys are incapable of taking anything seriously for very long. This talented duo’s unique work has amazed audiences since they formed in 2001 and is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud. We are huge fans of Tom and Pete’s sublime blend of contemporary dance-meets-comedy fun. You’d be mad to miss it!

In 1983, Tom illegally taped the first ‘Now That’s What I Call Music’ LP (side one) onto a C60 cassette. 25 years later he found it in a drawer and a new show was born!

Join Britain’s funniest dance duo as they deconstruct this first ever ‘Now’ album and jump headlong into the dark pool of days gone by and come out covered in a filthy 80’s gunk. Wrestling with classic hits from Bonnie Tyler and Duran Duran, amongst others, will Tom and Pete be able to save the audience from drowning in nostalgia? Don’t miss this hilarious romp with the welcome return to Doncaster of the Reeves and Mortimer of contemporary dance.

This wonderful dual language production is a timeless comedy of deception and desire.
