Manchester Camerata

Following the successful premiere as part of this years March Festival we welcome back Manchester Camerata. Known for their fresh and dynamic performances, Manchester Camerata chamber orchestra presents a concert of Baroque favourites under the direction of period performance expert, Nicholas Kraemer.

In addition to such well-known masterpieces as Pachelbel’s Canon, Vivaldi’s ‘Winter’ from the Seasons, and Purcell’s Chacony, it’s an opportunity to hear some of the Camerata players in a solo role in the much-loved Albinoni Oboe concerto and Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe.

Melt music confirmed

Alongside Doncaster’s very own Angel Brothers the first Melt event at the Civic Theatre on Saturday March 27 will also feature the Doncaster based acoustic trio – In Fear of Olive who are best known for their beautiful vocal harmonies , subtle guitar melodies and engaging lyrics. They will be followed by the Barnsley band Garforth and Myers who recently released a four track EP of their unique contemporary folk music. It’ll be a cracking night of some of the best local music. And once the gig is over you’ll be able to stick around and enjoy some world music tunes and a live fiddle session. You’d be mad to miss it!

After Hours

Fancy something a little different? Well why not come along to the first of two very special, intimate FREE After hours events in the Civic Theatre bar and foyer. We wanted to create a very relaxed lounge environment during the festival for people to enjoy some laid back tunes mixed with live music and a free slice of pizza! The first After Hours session takes place on Friday March 19 from 9.30pm to midnight and will feature DJ’s playing retro-chic sounds and a live acoustic session. Then on Saturday March 27 from 10.30pm to midnight we’ve got World Music DJ’s and a live fiddle session with the brilliant Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll.. don’t miss it. The evenings are open to all over 18 and no booking is required.

Music Platform Cancellation

Anyone who has already booked tickets will be offered a full refund or tickets for another HotHouse performance. National Orchestra in premier performance

One of the country’s leading Chamber Orchestra’s – Manchester Camerata visit Doncaster for the very first time on Tuesday 23 March, 7.30pm at the Civic Theatre. This premier performance is the start of a proposed three year partnership of outreach and audience development, music residency and performances leading up to the opening of Doncaster’s New Performance Venue. This stunning concert will be a rare treat for fans of classical music. The first half will feature the glorious sound of 20 strings filling the theatre with the music of British composers – Brittan, Elgar and Alwyn. The second half will briefly visit Argentina for the sizzling Piazzola Tangos and culminate with a Mozart Symphony no. 29 -30′. Tickets are still available for £16 or only £5 for under 18’s. It’ll be a night to remember so don’t miss it.

Diva in Doncaster

It’s hard to define an artist who’s astonishing voice straddles rock, blues, jazz and soul and is often compared with Janis Joplin, Nina Simone and Tom Waits. But there can be little doubt that an evening with the sensual singer–songwriter Sarah Jane Morris accompanied by guitarist Dominic Miller will leave you breathless. This intimate acoustic set promises to be a night to remember in this rare UK performance as part of HotHouse. Where it Hurts features a collection of original and haunting songs co-written with Dominic Miller and Martyn Barker. Sarah Jane is best known from the 1980’s as a member of the Communards who had a huge world wide hit with ‘ Don’t Leave Me This Way.’ Whilst Dominic Miller is widely regarded as a guitar maestro who is best known for his collaborations with Sting. It promises to be a wonderful evening, so don’t miss it. Tickets for the performance at 8.00pm on Wednesday March 17 are only £14, £12 and just £5 for 12-18 year olds.

Fun and family friendly?

Not everyone will agree but we think this brilliant concert with Ensemble 360’s piano and wind musicians is an unmissable night out for the whole family. The concert will feature some very well known tunes from the wonderful opera Carmen, Beethoven’s joyful Quintet, an arrangement of Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite and a very dramatic sextet by Thuile. We are huge fans of Sheffield based Music in the Round and their superb musicians who continue to delight Doncaster audiences. It’s the perfect end to a day of family fun. Tickets for the performance at 7.30pm on Saturday March 13 are only £11, £9 and just £3 for under 18’s and students.

Legendary bluesmen set for HotHouse date

The Blues Band, featuring the brilliant vocals of Paul Jones and Dave Kelly, are just one of the musical highlights for this year’s HotHouse. Tickets are selling fast for this very special thirtieth Anniversary performance that opens at The Civic Theatre on Tuesday 16 March at 8pm before touring across the country.

Paul Jones was the voice of Manfred Mann, famous for hits such as ‘5-4-3-2-1’ and ‘Do Wah Diddy Diddy’. He also hosted a long-running weekly show on BBC Radio 2. Dave Kelly has been active on the British blues music scene since the 1960s. During his career Dave has jammed with Muddy Waters as well as playing in Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker’s touring bands.

Don’t miss this legendary band as they perform in Doncaster for the very first time.

The Blues Band

Arguably the most successful blues outfit in Britain today, the Blues Band are celebrating 30 years of playing together. Their fabulous musicianship, close personal understanding and heartfelt pleasure and passion in performing an extensive mix of Rhythm & Blues and Roots music to delight audiences world-wide.

The powerful and emotional lead vocals from Paul Jones and Dave Kelly are the ‘icing’ on an evening of foot-tapping blues music. Their extensive canon of recorded material includes a large catalogue of original songs as well as their own interpretations of songs from the genre’s finest – Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Sleepy John Estes.
